Chapter Four - God will tell you that you belong to me!

Donna Tompkins (left) at the Elks Club where she worked and socialized.

Delving into the events leading up to Donna's murder, we are offered a glimpse into her life the night before the tragic incident.

Donna, seeking solace amidst a difficult divorce, had recently started bartending at the Elks Club—the job providing her with a sense of community and friendship that she craved and a respite from the inappropriate advances she had faced from some clients at her banking job. Donna's decision to work at the Elks Club becomes a therapeutic escape, giving her hope for the future.

Meanwhile, Donna becomes increasingly fearful of Terry Haynes—Donna's boss and ex-boyfriend who had offered Donna the job at the club and had previously expressed his desire to rekindle their relationship through a heartfelt love letter—after she discovers his drug addiction and learning of his history of domestic violence. With these details in mind, the question of Terry's motives and whether his fixation on Donna escalated to a dangerous point arises. Could Terry's past violence and possessiveness have driven him to commit a heinous act against Donna?

Also, the turbulent relationship between Donna and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jon Tompkins, has reached a breaking point. Jon displays anger issues and even attempts to strike Donna in a fit of rage. As pieces of the puzzle of Donna and Justine's case fall into place, Jon’s actions, manipulations, and behavior take a toll on Donna—and Justine.

Donna's last day is a glimpse into her resilience and determination to create a new chapter for herself and Justine, one free from the turmoil and toxicity of her past.
